Duplex washers are chloride stress corrosion cracking-, crevice corrosion-, and pitting-resistant. They retain mechanical strength in seawater, acid, and oxidizing environments, and are applicable to high-load service. Thinner and lighter designs are possible in bolted assemblies without sacrificing performance due to their greater strength than conventional stainless steels.
